I used a GIANT image bank in order to make some kind of digital collage, using screenshots of the movie, some ornament pictures that I found online (like the feathers in the back), and even pictures of theaters and big halls, as you can see in the background. I really can't remember the name of the theater that's in there, but if you can recognize it please let me know!
After I got what I wanted, I printed this image and then, using an onionskin over the original print, proceeded to mark all the black zones with a pencil. They were a great reference for when I started putting the vectors together, because I started with the blacks layer, and then everything else followed.
